LANGUAGE COUNSELLING
MLC’s Bilingual counsellors are dedicated to assisting international
students in managing the transition from overseas to the Australian
study and living environment and to overcome any personal difficulties.
MLC’s Bilingual counsellors are qualified to provide services
in Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Cantonese, Spanish,
Dutch and other languages. MLC’s Students’ parents
and guardians can speak directly to our bilingual counsellors over
the phone or in person where students’ issues and needs are
concerned.
HOMESTAY
& GUARDIANSHIP AUSTRALIA
Guardianship Australia provides student support, academic counselling
and guidance to international students. Services include:
General Support Services
• Regular visits with students to ensure cultural acclimatisation,
well-being and academic progress
• Supervision and guidance in all matters financial
• General assistance in matters relating to banking, insurance,
appointments and memberships
Academic Care
• Orientation programs to the education provider appropriate
to the students’ requirements
• Regular liaison with the education provider to ensure academic
progress and comfort within the school environment
• Collation of school reports and other relevant details for
periodic submission to parents overseas
• Representation of Student and Parent interests and concerns
to the education provider
Homestay Arrangements
• Guardianship Australia has robust selection criteria and
monitoring of homestay carers and homestay residences, including,
but not limited to:
1. Australian Police vetting of all persons aged 18 years or over
resident in the household, excluding other international students
2. Assessment of the homestay carer’s suitability
3. Assessment of the suitability of the residential facilities
4. Assessment of whether a homestay carer will provide a safe physical
and emotional environment
• A support infrastructure for homestay carers is created,
and provides them with advice and information on best practice,
so they can build their
capability to provide high quality residential services to international
students
• Guardianship Australia meets with students in homestay accommodation
at regular intervals to ensure that the accommodation remains suitable
Emergency Assistance
• Guardianship Australia provides 24-hour on-call “Care
Team” assistance, which includes emergency first aid treatment
and first language counselling
• Guardianship Australia contacts the parents of each international
student and establishes communication arrangements with parents
that can be used
in the event of any emergency

GUARDIANSHIP
AUSTRALIA
Guardianship Australia is MLC’s preferred Guardianship Company.
It provides general student support, academic counselling and guidance
to students.
The
services include:
• Meet and greet at Melbourne Airport upon arrival
• Introduce student to Homestay
• The Guardianship Australia Guardian/Carer will introduce
themselves and the student will be given their emergency contact
information, mobile phone number etc.
• Assistance with opening bank account, purchasing mobile
phone, purchasing telephone card
• Have very regular contact with the student either in person
or via the telephone
• Assist in anyway necessary
• Take the student to their pathway school for initial interview,
first day.
• Assist with purchasing uniform, books.
• Assist with medical appointments where required
• Attend University open days
• Attend Parent Teacher Interviews
• Attend Speech Nights
• Attend School or other functions requested by the student
• When a student goes home to their home country:
• Transport to Melbourne Airport
• Pick-up upon return to Melbourne Airport
• Provide parents with feedback including report translation
and coaching recommendation.
• Take the students on excursions during the school hoildays
