English for Academic Purposes

Course Length: 1-52 weeks

There is no minimum or standard course length. The appropriate length of study can be discussed with the Course Coordinator depending on your current level and the entry requirements of your pathway course.

Campus: Melbourne City & Perth

Hours: 25 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Delivery: Face-to-Face and interactive live online classes

Age: 18 years +

For those of you who are currently in your home country, there is no need to delay your studies. You can study ELICOS now with the confidence that you will be able to commence your Australian pathway courses sooner.

Online delivery is also available to students who are in Australia and unable to attend face-to-face classes in Melbourne due to COVID-19 government restrictions.  However, once these restrictions are lifted, student visa holders will be required to return to face-to-face learning in accordance with the requirements of the Department of Home Affairs.

Course Overview:

English for Academic Purposes is specifically designed to prepare you for your continuing tertiary education, at Certificate, Diploma, Foundation Studies, Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels.

You are taught English language skills that will enable you to succeed in an academic environment. Presentation skills, essay writing, and comprehensive listening tasks all give you the best advantage when you go on to study at an Australian University.

You are also exposed to advanced grammar and language skills as well as academic areas including Academic Conventions in Footnoting and Referencing, The Art of Persuasion, and Long Essay Writing.

Requirements:

A consistent IELTS band of 5.5 is recommended as a minimum entry requirement for this course. If you are unsure of your English level, the Melbourne Language Centre offers a free placement test at our Melbourne City campus every Monday. Bookings are essential, contact us for more information.

School Dates:

At MLC, classes are run continuously throughout the year – the school is open every day except Saturday, Sunday and public holidays and does not close for term or school holidays.
