Course Overview:
This program will be of significant benefit to overseas health nurses wishing to improve their English language skills and gain advanced specialist instruction and experience in a range of nursing fields.
Objectives
• To gain an understanding of nursing practice in Australia
• To develop an understanding of the Australian healthcare system
• To observe current nursing practice and the use of advanced medical terminology
• To appreciate the cultural and social differences – as related to health issues – between Japan and Australia
• To improve general proficiency in English
Course Structure
Students will undertake a full-time English program in conjunction with the Nursing Education program. The duration of this combined program is between 12 –36 weeks. During this time, students will have weekly 2-hour sessions, including visits to several hospitals, and medical/welfare facilities, plus lectures on the Australian healthcare system and general nursing practice in Australia. The last half of the Nursing Education Program includes Nursing English conducted by an experienced Registered Nurse. The program is suitable for nurses, student nurses and other health professionals.

Requirements:
There are no English requirements for this course, but students will need an understanding of Japanese language, as a Japanese interpreter assists with the first half of the nursing education program. Students will also need public liability cover as part of their own travel insurance in order to visit medical facilities.
School Dates:
At MLC, classes are run continuously throughout the year – the school is open every day except Saturday, Sunday and public holidays and does not close for term or school holidays.
